Along the shoreline in Martinez, the Alhambra Creek empties into the Carquinez Strait. Surrounding the creek is a grassy marshland. It is a tranquil place that is the home to much wildlife. This includes a number of water birds who build their nests there. It is not unusual to see a heron soaring over head, grebe diving for fish, or merganser ducks floating on the surface of the water.
In this painting I tried to capture the every changing mood and light of the day, which was influenced by the cloudy and windy sky. Perhaps the next time I am there one of those water birds will pose long enough to make it into my painting.
