A Colorful New Year

The Holidays are over and it is time to get back to work. This is the first time I have painted all year! Good thing we are only one week into 2014!

For me, the New Year starts with a new project. I am working on a series of wine inspired paintings. Although the alternative does spark the imagination, by wine inspired, I mean that wine is the subject. I am painting this series to hang in a new Italian restaurant that opened in downtown Pleasanton. The Art Critique and Coffee group has been given the opportunity to hang wine and food themed paintings in a restaurant called Mangia Mi. By all accounts it is a nice place with delicious food. I am looking forward to trying it. Perhaps a reward for finishing the series?

This is the first painting in the series. It is all about color, spontaneity, and fun. Although I was looking at a bottle of wine and a glass, most of this comes from my imagination. I am creating the mood, lighting, and reflections. Working from imagination can be tricky for many reasons.  It is hard to achieve accuracy when imagining your colors and light source, but this piece is not meant to be an accurate study. The biggest problem I had working from imagination was the endless possibilities! I must have painted the label at least four times.  Oh well, on to the next one!

Wishing you a Happy and Colorful New Year!
