Through the Trees

I have always loved birch trees. They are plentiful in my home state of Vermont, but they are much more rare here in California. There are a few birch trees that grow on a main intersection in my town. I drive past them nearly everyday. I often think to myself, “I must paint those trees.” Well, I finally did this small study.

I relish the daylight on these short autumn days. I wanted to capture the way it comes through the trees, and peaks through the shadows, illuminating patches on the ground.
